Father's Day Camping Trip in Mendocino

We decided to surprise dad with a camping trip to Mendocino KOA Kamp for Father's Day. We thought it would be something fun for everyone and manly enough for dad on father's day. We were to stay two nights.
When we left Walnut Creek it was 96 degrees! So let's just say the camp in Mendocino is on the beach and FREEZING!!!! It was 45 degrees and I packed nothing but summer-y clothes for us and we forgot to pack a bag for Enrique (whoops!) although I did pack him a toothbrush. We were so freezing cold and had to buy thick socks, hats and because I didn't bring warm clothing for myself, I had to wear Eden's school sweatshirt (a wee bit too small to say the least) and Enrique's huge jacket.
The camp had some really fun activities because it was Fathers Day weekend. We rode the dune buggies which was fun and crazy. The girls had a blast with that one. Then there was a pool and jacuzzi which the girls and their dad took advantage of. I read most of the time. Something I loved doing before I had children and just couldn't find the time for after children. It was really nice catching the reading bug again! I actually finished a book!
Then, of course, there was the beach. Lola spent her time digging in the sand while Eden and Enrique picked up huge chuncks of driftwood and made them into shelters. The ocean was magnificent, but so frightening for me. The waves were massive and intimidating. I wouldn't let the girls anywhere near the water. Too risky that day.
Saturday before Pop's day, the girls went to the camp community center where they got to make dad a huge wooden plaque. The girls thought the log piece was really cool because sap was coming out of it. They got to paint on them and they had a such a great time making something special for their dad.
The next morning on Father's Day we took Enrique to a Father's Day Breakfast provided by the camp site. It was pretty good. The girls very proudly handed their art work to their dad and we were off for home! Back to 90 degree weather!
I think he had a great time. It was just a short trip, but so worth it.
