Eden with her Science Project and award
It's been so long since I have updated the blog, but so much has happened since the last post. First of all the girls are growing so very fast. Eden had her 8 year doctor's appointment and she is at the 99th percentile and she's the size of an average 12 year old. Nothing new, right, but it seems she's getting taller and taller every year. It used to be she was the size of a child two years older, but now it's way beyond that. I have the hardest time finding clothes for her. Thank goodness for skinny and slim jeans. She is wearing 10 slim with no room for growth but any size bigger and she's swimming in them. She wears a shirt size of 10-12 altough the sleeves are terribly short. When I get her a 14 she's swimming in it as well.
Lola is getting quite tall, too. She hit a growth spurt back in October and she just keeps growing! In fact, she has been getting the familiar leg pains her big sis got at her age (growing pains) and she is now one of the tallest kids in her class, despite being a year younger than most. She's nowhere near the height Eden was, but she is definitely in a higher percentile. She's looking forward to kindergarten in August...so am I.
Eden has had a busy busy beginning of the year. First a birthday party, then a 2nd grade singing performance and now she's won another poetry contest. This one was huge! Out of 22 schools and over 400 entries, her poem A Seed was chosen. She was the only student from Parkmead Elementary that won an award and Honorable mention. What a fun day that was when we went for the award ceremony. We had no clue she had won and that her poem had been published. The big surprise when we got there, too was that she had to read her poem aloud to the whole audience of people! Poor child. I thought she was going to cry up at the podium, but she did it! Worse of all she was first to go up! We can't even tell you how very proud we all are of her. Her teacher has named her "The Poet" which is very fitting. I always find poems around the house. She is so much like I was...a poet, a romantic a big dreamer and we both have a love of reading.
There was a speaker and poet at the ceremony and she announced Eden and said she has a great Poet's name and that her poem was inspiring because it reminded her about the Circle of Life and how important it is to listen and take note of the importance of this process. I nearly cried. She won a $10 Barnes and Noble gift card and an entrance ticket to Lindsey Wildlife Museum.
Here is the poem
A Seed
A seed becomes a seedling.
The seedling becomes a little plant.
The big plant becomes a tree.
With delicate green leaves that will fall off,
Crumble and turn brown.
A ladybug, with red ruby wings
Eats the brown leaf.
The leaf becomes dirt.
