All About Lola

Here's Lola with her Thomas the tank Jack in The Box toy. It's very cute and silly. Typical Lola.

Lola just had her 4 year doctor's appointment and she is doing quite well. She's not quite as big as her Big Sis was at this age, but she's above average at 75 percentile in height and 50% in weight. She is a skinny mini but I think it's because she is very picky about what she eats and some days she doesn't really eat much. I was surprised to see that she isn't much higher in the height percentile. She is one of the tallest and the youngest in class. She just turned 4 but most kids in her class will be 5 within the next couple of months.

She's got a very good friendship with a little boy in class. They are so similar in so many ways! Same personalities and both very creative and imaginative. It's quite refreshing. Most times Lolie and I make playdates, the kids don't get her imaginative play. For instance she will recreate a camping trip and make a pretend tent and smores and campfire. Her little friends just stare at her trying so hard to see these pretend objects. They end up playing with the play structures. The tangible things, I suppose you could say. But with her little friend, Ryan, they can play for hours (no joke) playing in the brush and bushes at school. Last week they played Indiana Jones and lots of other things. It's great to see her connecting so well with someone that is on her level. I think she may be a bit more advanced because she's got an older sister and she tags along with Eden and her friends often. Her teacher says she is already a perfectionist and if she can't do something exactly as demonstrated, she won't do it. I am working on that one with her.

She already counts to 30 easily and she knows how to count objects and can identify numbers and some letters. What I find facscinating is she already gets the counting thing! The tens and that 1, 2, 3's etc are used after 20's, 30's 40's etc. It's hard to describe because I am not a teacher, but I have noticed that about her. She already knows how to write her name, although she has decided because she doesn't make a perfect "a" she won't write her name. She uses big vocabulary words and it surprises people at times. She was playing with a friend at the playground, making pretend cake and she said "We need confectioner's sugar," the mom I was with was so shocked at that. She told two sisters at ballet, that they looked very alike and "similar," which I thought was a big word. She does that often. But one annoying thing is when people talk to her sometimes, depending on her mood, she will do baby talk or not talk at all. It bugs me because she has a huge vocabulary!

She is a lot of fun to be around at times. She is either happy or mean and mad. My mom says, "isn't that called bipolar," well, she is sort of like that really! Like I said before, I never know what to expect. But when she's loving, she's like butter! Sweet as can be. Lots of hugs, kisses. very empathetic, loving. her laugh is infectuous. But when she's in a mood, it's best to stay away and to not be offended by what she may or may not say.

A girlfriend of mine has the same issues with her child. She is reading a book about her "spirited child." The interesting thing is her son's birthday is the same month as Lola and two days earlier than hers. Most people I come across who are Leo's say the same thing about themselves, they are complicated, stubborn, get bored easily. It's funny because most say to me it's a Leo thing.

She goes through very extreme stages. Two's were terrible, three's horrible and four's tumultuous but fun mostly. Her doctor says if you think this stage is bad, wait until she's 13! Oh joy! But you know what, how boring and predictable life would be without her. This is my coping mechanism :).

Fun Facts about Lola:

Lola's favorite singer is Britney Spears. She loves her songs and video's. She is crazy about the Pussycat Dolls as well. She wants to dance and dress just like them (uh oh).

Her favorite colors are pink and turquoise.

She wants to marry a little boy in her class named Dawson. He's the classroom casanova. He has proposed to all the girls just about.

Her favorite thing to do is play dress-up and wear nail polish and make-up.

She is the ultimate girlie girl. Her favorite word used to be "fabulous!" She throws a fit on a daily basis over her shoes. She is super picky about what shoes she needs to wear with what outfit.

She is super empathetic (with me, most often!). When I am sick she will try to make me feel better even if it means she will catch my cold. She feels my forehead and tries to take my temperature. She can be a real sweetheart.
