ALVIN AILEY HERE WE COME

Very Last minute my mom and I decided to go on a big girls day out and we decided to take Eden to see her very first Alvin Ailey performance at Zellerbach Hall at UC Berkeley (my old school!). It was their 50th Anniversary show, March 8 and we had the best time! Luckily we all three got seats. Eden and I sat in the mezzanine while my mom got a seat on the balcony (pretty high up...she's afraid of heights but she did just fine, sort of ) and I don't know what was more entertaining; the dancers or Eden dancing in her seat. She felt compelled to dance. I suppose it is just in her. As the dancer's arms twisted and moved so did Eden's. Even her body moved like theirs. It was so precious to see her so, well, moved by the performance.

Alvin Ailey is one of my favorite dance company's. The dancers are all so very powerful and Revelations just makes you want to cry. Eden's favorite (and my mom's, too) was the Wade in The Water piece and mine was the Run Sinner Man. I can't tell you how many times I've seen that show, I can watch it over and over again and it was such a treat being able to share such a deep passion of mine with my mom and my Edie Pie.

While watching the show, I kept thinking to myself, one day Eden could be up there. One day if she wants she too can have the opportunity to dance with the Alvin Ailey dancers as I did while at UC Berkeley back in the day.

Afterward, we all walked over to my old dance studio on campus and Eden took a picture in front of it. It's the building with the huge round stained glass window in the background. Oh such memories ran through my mind. Like rushing every morning to make my Company dance class or rehearsing for my old Choreographer's Workshop. It was very nice sharing these moments with Eden. I even got a picture of her sitting in front of the Zellerbach Playhouse.

My mom ended the day by treating us to a most exquisite dinner at Scott's here in Walnut Creek. I had the Filet Mignon and Eden the Salmon and my mom a Prime Rib. The pianist was there that evening which really added to the ambiance. It honestly was such a special day. And I am sure it left quite an impression on Eden.
