Me and Lola at her school Mother's Day event
Mother's Days re always so very special around here, but this year it seemed even more special than usual. Maybe it's because my Eden woke up Mother's Day and said to me, "Mommy, Happy Mother's Day. I love you" and that wasn't with any reminders at all. It was just so genuine and worth more than any gift anyone could ever give me. Or maybe it's the millions of kisses Lolie blew me while she spun around on the Merry Go Round at The Oakland Zoo or maybe it is the kicks and hiccup reminders coming from my belly these days. Or perhaps the surprise Mother's Day dinner for just the two of us Enrique treated me to the Friday before Mother's Day. "Just because you mean so much to us and you do so much for the family..." is what he said. Whatever it was I feel so incredibly blessed to be a mom. There are days when I watch the girls laugh and run all wild and I try to take a mental picture of those moments. I really enjoy the special times we spend together. They are such incredible kids, I feel so very lucky and honored to have these two (and soon three) in my life. What did I ever do to deserve these girls?
This Mother's Day was sort of like a Mother's Day weekend. First on Friday, my mom took the girls to her house to do some Mom's day stuff for me and Ednrique took me out for a surprise dinner and a great Modern Asian food restaurant. Boy was I spoiled there! We ordered such exotic things and it was all so delicious and it was really nice getting a chance to reconnect like that. It was a very special moment for me.
The next day, Saturday the girls and I had reservations for a Mommy and Daughter Tea at the Secret Garden Tea House in San Francisco at the Golden Gate Park. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to be taking both my girls this year for this special tea time. The girls had a Princess Tea and I the Mother's Day special with a tiered platter of all sorts of amazing, decadent treats; little sandwiches, torts, petits fours and exquisit biscuits and most importantly the best tea I have tasted yet! And that was the decaffeinated version. It was so delicious! The girls also had a platter of delicate, delectable delights, though on tiny platters just perfect for little ones. They had peanut btter sandwiches, teddy bear cinnamon and sugar toast, and strawberry ecclairs. But their most favorite part was the Honey lollipop tea. They kept commenting on this tea and both were crazy about the tiny sugar cubes and the tiny child size saucers and cups.
To make this an even more special event, I allowed them to buy a special toy there. Eden bought a tiny tea set and Lola a Lemur stuffy. No, she didn't want all the frilly tiara's and princess purses or rainbow unicorns...no, hand her the silliest looking lemur toy. But it made her so very happy.
Afterward, we met up with Enrique and we wandered the gardens at the San Francisco Botanical garden. This turned out to be the BEST THING EVER! It just so happens that that day they were having a Family Adventure hunt. They handed us a booklet withinstructions on how to make your way through the park while all the while learning about all the different varities of plants and flowers. It was a sort of scavenger hunt and it was up our alley. In fact, the person in charge of the event asked if he could take pictures of us while we explored as he hadn't seen such an enthusiastic family. Yes, that's us. Big Nerdy Happy Hunting Family. We even gave ourselves the Team name the Tea Team (Enrique was not too thrilled with this name, but because it was a special day, he went along with it). Anyway, I think without that hunt we would have missed 90% of the gardens. It really made us stop, look and learn about so much there. We ended up spending a couple of hours there until I was about ready to collapse. We ended our SF excursion with a pizza dinner at Tony's pizza and then a Gelato. This was such a fantastic day that I will not only ever forget but I know the girls will always remember and treasure.
The next day, Mother's Day we met up with my mom and had a fun and very traditional breakfast at the Buttercup. They were super busy but as usual made time to talk with us and wish us a happy Mother's Day. That place is so great because of the wait staff there.
Next it was off to the oakland Zoo. It was the most perfect day! It rained for a few minutes, but for once it was not too hot and it was really quite enjoyable. The girls had a great time and my mom and I got a chance to chat about things. It was quite special. At the end of the day we exchanged presents and as usual the girls and my mom spoiled me with gifts and lots of love.
I had such a special and memorable Mother's Day weeknd. how very lucky I am to have such a wonderful family.
The very last event to happen was the Mother's Day tea at Lola's school. I was so worried I would miss this event because I had come down with a terrible cold and sinus infection. It took every bit of strength out of me to get dressed and ready for this day. It was so wonderful! Though I felt like I would faint any minute (okay I am being somewhat dramatic, but I was terribly sick) this day was so very special spending it with lola and having her sing me a special song. She served me tea and made me a special Mom's Day necklace. Well, it made me feel so happy and teary eyed. It was so very sweet and I will always cherish that moment with her. Such a sweet and loving girl.

Saturday Easter Egg hunt with the Bunny
For Spring break we took a trip (me, the girls and Nana) to Disneyland, San Diego Zoo and Knotts Berry Farm while Dad stayed home and worked. We decided to leave early Easter Sunday. We had the best time although everywhere we went it was terribly crowded! We've been going to Disneyland for 4 years now and we've been there at different times of the year. We've even been there during spring break and it's never been this crowded. We only got on some of our favorite rides once or twice because the wait was around 40 minutes or so for each. We had an early entrance day and we took advantage of it and got on some of our favorites. Peter Pan ride is one of our favorites and so is the Alice and Wonderland Caterpillar ride. My favorite is Winnie the Pooh (so childish, but I have a soft spot for old pooh) and I was so surprised that this ride was a 20 minute wait! It's never been that before, but it was well worth it. We always have the best time when we go there. We had a picnic, we saw a parade, we met the Tinker Bell Fairies, we saw the old Mickey Mouse flicks, and did a little bit of shopping...and eating. The girls got face paintings and were spoiled with tons of fun treats.
We even took a trip to San Diego Zoo which was a ton of fun once we got there. We saw a side of the zoo we'd never seen before. As one might know you need at least two days to explore the zoo entirely and we only had a few hours so we ventured into the Africa side of the zoo this time around. The girls had a blast and Nana and I were totally wiped out at the end of the day.
Next,we decided to go to Knott's Berry Farm I think mostly because of the chicken dinner at the end of our day at Knott's Kitchen. They have the best biscuits and chicken ever! It was such a surprise to see this place absolutely packed! It was such a hot day and by this time it was the fourth day into vacation and I was exhausted from pregnancy and the heat. We made a fun day out of it as we usually do (so optimistic are we all) though we didn't really get on very many rides...I think Lola got on the most. The chicken dinner was such a wonderful treat and the biscuits with Knott's jam...mouth watering. This day was definitely worth it and the girls always get a kick out of seeing the wandering roosters outside of the park.
We all had such a great time on this trip! We took advantage of the Sheraton Hotel and it really truly is a magnificent and beautiful place. You feel like you are in a palace; a queen for the day. Our usual wait staff remember us every year and are always so very welcoming and fun to talk to.
But as all good things have to come to an end, we headed home a week later and made a few stops at various snack spots (something the kids find enjoyable) and we ended our vacation with a dinner at Anderson's Pea Soup restaurant, though neither of us got the pea soup this time around.
We all kept saying next year Baby Boy Herrera will be around 8 months old when we take our trip to Disney. The age Lolie was when we first took her to Disneyland. Maybe dad can come with us for a day or two next year.
