Eden's 7 Year Check-Up

Eden had her 7 year well child doctor's visit on March 7. She is as expected in the 100th percentile on her height and 99th percentile in weight. She is as her doctor says the size of an average 9 year old and a small 10 year old. She's 63 pounds and 55 inches tall. Wow! She's already up to my chin. She loves being tall, too. She always brags that by the time she's 9 she will be as tall as me. We'll see.

One of Eden's friends asked me how Eden got so big. He said she's the biggest first grader in all the classrooms. I told him she's as tall as she is because she eats all of her veges. He looked very hopeful!

Eden's Valentine Party FINALLY, as she would say

Well, it's been about 3 years since my poor child has been begging for a Valentine's Day party and I finally caved in. I had my reservations because #1 we have a small place and no back yard (we have a really fun pool in the summer time, but it's closed in winter) and #2 the girls' room is always a mess not to mention my home. I mean no matter how much I clean it, within hours it's a mess. I finally told Eden if she could help clean her room and keep it decent then she could have 3 or 4 friends over for a playdate/Valentine's Day party. It was hard for her choosing which friends but she invited 4 friends from school...very quiet, polite children!
The day started out very rainy...storming as I can recall, but I went out and got a ton of pink and red balloons, decorated the house with Valentine's hearts and colors, all the fun stuff. I even bought mini red roses for our centerpiece. It really was a success and you'd never guess we live in a small place because the girls were having so much fun running up and down our stairs and playing on the bunk bed. There was plenty to do. They made arts and crafts (some made Valentine's for their parents), we decorated cupcakes, ate pink rice crispy treats, and heart shaped sandwiches. They had so much fun! It was really a blast! And they went home with hands full of treats and Valentine goody bags. I have to admit, it was actually enjoyable and Eden got to have two things she's wanted most, a playdate and a party at the same time.
It sure made me realize that we have plenty of room for playdates so we will have more of those for sure and maybe a little party or two as well.

Valentine's Day Parties

It's that time of year when my girls have Valentine's Day parties and love is in the air. This year Eden had her Valentine's Day party at school on Wednesday because her school had a 5 day weekend starting the 12th of February so I lucked out and was able to be at her party as you can see in the photos, Lola was there, too. Eden made Valentine's crafts, decorated heart shaped cookies and passed out her Valentine's and collected hers as well. It was utter chaos with all the kids roaming around looking for each other's bags but it was fun, too.
The next day was Lola's Valentine's party. Her school decided to make it just a party for the kids and not the families so Eden and I went for a mommy daughter day. We went for breakfast at Mel's and then we got our nails done at our favorite Nail shop. Then we went for coffee (well for me, water for her) and it was off to pick Lola up from school. Can I just say how fun it really is having a 7 year old daughter! I mean, we have so much fun when it's just the two of us. I really enjoy those special moments with her and I know she does, too because she keeps commenting on it.
Afterward, we got a chance to go into Lola's classroom and watch her hand out her Valentine's to her friends. I also got video of them and I will try to fit it in, too. Just to let you know, Lola goes to a religious school and though they are not too bad about being too religious the teacher had a hard time getting the school to allow a Valentine's party. So, she had to incorporate the religious aspect to the holiday in order for them to be able to celebrate the day. In the video she's talking about St. Valentine and the importance of the day. There is a part at the end when they sing a goodbye song and Lola looks so adorable. It was so very precious!

My big Phat 34th Birthday

My 34th Birthday was on February 5 and I had the best time! Why? Because the girls were both in school and my mom came over and treated me to breakfast at the Buttercup restaurant and shopping at my favorite second hand stores (One of my favorite things to do). It was so nice sitting and enjoying breakfast with no children. Don't get me wrong, I love the girls but I do miss the luxury of going out for breakfast and just having girl talk and walking away with no food on your clothes or greasy hand prints on your arms. My mom and I had such a good time and the folks at the Restaurant even sang me a happy birthday song and gave me a very special treat. It was such a wonderful way to begin the day.
Then we were off for some shopping at a few second hand stores here. My mom spoiled me and bought all my great finds. That was such a nice surprise.
Later, we picked the girls up from school and openned presents, ate cake and just had a nice time. Boy was I spoiled with all my lovely gifts! Then Enrique came home from work with chocolate covered strawberries and a sweet card and we were off for dinner...my mom's treat. We went to my favorite Mexican Food restaurant here in Walnut Creek, La Fogata, where I had some chicken tacos and most importantly margaritas. They make the best there!
Needless to say it was a fun and memorable day, but I can't believe I am already 34. The good thing is I feel so much younger and I get told all the time I look about 27 years old. I'll take it, but I remember when I was 27 and everyone thought I was 19. Next year, as I've been told by my doctor I will be looking forward to celebrating my 35th, otherwise known as my Advanced Maternal Age! What's that all about? Anyway, no gray hairs yet, except for one that I've had since my 30th (no, really! It's hysterical!) and I never pulled it out because I finally have one.
I got lots of happy birthday calls and cards from friends and family and I THANK YOU ALL! It really means so much to me. And thank you mom for taking the day off from work to spend time spoiling me. This is a tradition for me and my mom. I remember from age 4 or so my mom took my birthday's off and when I got home from school she'd have the place decorated and cake made and presents all over the place, even when I was in college. I will always have those cherished memories.
